The year is 2393. Six years after the death of Ambassador Spock, the Alpha Quadrant is still reeling from the effects of the Hobus Supernova which destroyed Romulus and Remus. With Empires struggling to survive and minor powers vying for supremacy, it is an interesting time for the United Federation of Planets. In the chaos, piracy has been on the rise, with typically peaceful trade routes to distant Federation frontier worlds now coming on periodic attack by roving bands of marauders. The U.S.S. Poseidon, a Miranda-class starship, is the beginning of Starfleet's response to this problem. Returned to service from mothball and refitted for modern service, she is to act as Starfleet's arm and shield in places left unprotected. These are the adventures of the Poseidon, and she needs you as her crew.
The crew and commanding officer of the U.S.S. Poseidon (NCC-42635) welcome you to our homepage! The objective of our sim is to provide an avenue for fans of Star Trek sims to explore one of the less detailed areas of traditional Star Trek Role Playing, that of convoy escort and anti-piracy operations. Missions will inevitably vary depending on what comes down from Pegasus Fleet, but the primary goal and objective of the Poseidon is to represent a solid presence as Starfleets commitment to peace and security with its member-worlds and their peoples, and act as deterrent to the enemies of those ideals.
Positions on the U.S.S. Poseidon are generally open to all applications. We welcome all aspects and avenues of experience, and are eager to have you join us on our adventures. Since the U.S.S. Poseidon is essentially an active-duty training vessel - despite its mission perimeters - missions will generally include objectives that encourage character growth and exploration in order to flesh out players perspectives and worlds. Each post adds to the creation and legacy of the Poseidon, and each player is more than welcomed to use the Poseidon to hopefully reach for better, more prestigious ships and positions within Pegasus Fleet!

Recently we underwent some minor changes to how we conduct and display roles in our discord. There were a few other minor additions to this, but the specific change was that Senior Officers will no longer have their own specific role; no crew below a Commanding Officer rank (CO, XO, 2XO) will have a role. This was done due to one of our wonderful suggestions in our discord channel, #suggestions-complaints. The specific reason was that, rightfully, there was too many senior officers and too few junior officers which left the rest of the crew out of most talks. Now, all crew will be tagged under the role "Ships Crew" which enables everyone to see every channel their situated to, with the exception of admin channels reserved for Command Staff.
As your CO, I greatly appreciate the helpful advice and suggestions yesterday as they were most welcomed!
Additionally, we made a few changes to how we, the Command Staff, communicate with the players. Rightfully, the Command Staff are designated as GM's (Game Masters) with myself as CO the Head Game Master. I get advice from my GM's, we plot a story, I decide on the direction, we all figure into it and I have the final say on that direction. It's a very interactive, fun, and wonderful process to sit back and have my fellow GM's not only educate me on a few instance, but provide awesome inspiration and story bits that we are extremely excited to see the players characters be involved in. What we never did, however, was tell the player-base what those decisions were. Presently there is a strawpoll up in the #announcements channel on discord that's waiting for your votes to finalize how we proceed from here.
Here is a list of the options:
1. Have Bi-Weekly meetings with all crew to discuss story progress
2. Have Bi-Weekly command staff meeting releases for crew to examine and opine on
3. Both (first a scheduled crew meeting, then a dispatch of command staff decision)
I'm going to leave the poll up for a few more days to let the ship decide on the direction we, as the Command Staff, can take to better associate and communicate with the players. At the end of the voting we'll finalize the tally since there was a opinion on simply giving a report of our meetings, we'll make a final decision, then implement what is favored. I am very happy as your CO to be opening a new avenue in which we, as your GM's, can communicate our exciting ideas better with you as our players.
Due to the suggestions, #annoncements will no longer be open to discussions, neither will any channel under the SHIP INFORMATION category with the exception of #suggestion-complaints. This was done to make sure that everyone has an equal say and no specific role is left out. Now, only Command Staff can comment there, which is how it should of been from the start and I apologize for that oversight. Thanks again for that suggestion!
Finally, some channels under the CREW LOUNGE category were properly renamed to reflect either In-Character (IC) purposes or Out-of-Character (OOC) purposes, which will help the players better determine which channel reflects which purpose for the ship or simply for casual conversation. This, too, was a suggestion and was happily implemented due to popular request. Thanks for that suggestion!

September 14th, 2019: Added JUNIOR OFFICER'S OFFICE COMPLEX to canon deck listing on deck 6 for junior officer positions, such as quartermaster and any assistant. Offices will be cramped and tight but exist. They are located in the unassigned area shown on the layout.
Part 2 for 9/14/2019: Changed layout and roles on discord. There are no longer more moderators than members. Only three admins (CO, XO, 2XO) now, no moderators unless we get further members. Additionally updated channels under CREW LOUNGE to reflect IC and OOC purposes
Keep them coming! The Command Staff is eager to receive more suggestions! We'll let you know if they won't work, such as if they break GM authority or whatnot, but otherwise we're all pretty excited to open up new avenues for you to explore your characters. A small clarification on the Bridge Joint Post. I apologize for how sudden it may have appeared, so I wanted to clarify what is going on and what we, as the command staff, intend to do when everyone has had their say and the situation moves on and concludes. We've basically decided to split the post into two halves; bridge and everything below decks. What is going to happen is that when everyone has concluded their activity, and the bridge has concluded its launch and whatever else will be included, the command staff will go through and edit the placement of entries to fit into a canonical order.
Now, to be perfectly clear on this, these edits will not in any way be permitted to edit content posted by a crewmember unless it's some sort of grammatical error that is usually fixed anyway. Your content is your content, our only objective is fitting everything in order so you guys have a blast reading it. The brief explanation for this is that I am, your Captain, trying out something that may or may not flesh out in future JP's. If it doesn't we'll continue with the tried and true methods and no harm done.
If anyone has any objections to this or feels this is a violation of your creativity, let us know right away! While we may only be editing the placement of things, this is your sim too and if you feel that is wrong or is unnecessary let us know. Any input from you is valuable during this time, especially considering it's a simple experiment approved by myself to try to make things easier. If it isn't easier, or especially if it violates a level of trust, let us and me know.

As many of you will find out by checking your emails, your control panels on the website, or discord, we have begun our shakedown cruise with Departure - Part One! What does this mean for the ship and what does it mean for current Joint Posts? Let me explain.
First, there is nothing to be worried about concerning current Joint Posts within the mission "Departure and Trail Run". All crew may enjoy the privilege of continuing, starting, and finishing JP's happening BEFORE our departure. This has been decided by the Command Staff to allow everyone the chance and opportunity to get characters acquainted and elaborate on necessary story plots for players and their characters, without forcing them to end those plots prematurely. We want you to enjoy your time on the Poseidon, not fret!
Second, this marks the first occasion and usage of our new dating format. For those who have already checked, you'll note under "Time" I have placed "Day 000" and beside it the hours (hours are optional). From this point on with any future JP's made under the mission "Shakedown" and beyond, we MUST use the standardized "DAY" format to provide accurate chronological order to our JP's. You can be as creative as you wish, so long as you don't overwrite or overlay any JP's made for shipwide use (such as bridge operations). If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to address them on the discord or on the website to me. I will happily answer any questions and address any problems, and we'll work through any necessary changes.
Other than these two points, this is your standard JP. All bridge personnel who would be on the bridge will need to portray their characters as such, and all characters who wouldn't can easily and freely portrayed their activities off the bridge. I've included everyone and every owned NPC to allow players the freedom to experiment. I am also using this as an experiment to see how this method plays out, because if this allows everyone to participate I won't seclude specific portions of the ship during important JP's. It's a trail in process!

I was slightly disappointed that our great accomplishment of 86 posts for the month wasn't mentioned in the monthly report, but don't fret crew. Just because Pegasus Fleet Admirality is too busy patting their own backs doesn't mean your Command Staff isn't busy showing their appreciation to you! I want to emphasize that this is the best crew I have ever had the pleasure to sim with. You all bring some amazing and unique qualities to the table that very few sims I've participated in permit. I firmly believe that the culture of inclusion and openness to every idea here on the Poseidon allows that, and I feel greatly that by us encouraging you to be as creative as possible helps with that. Remember that there are no closed doors to the Command Staff here on my ship, you are always free to voice your opinions, complaints, and suggestions and we take each one seriously.
You guys are the best!
Once the inventory is through at my warehouse today, and possibly following a bit of chaos on Monday, I should be back to appearing regularly here. I'll be able to start our departure formally and I am so super excited to begin this next phase with all of you. Don't worry! Our last mission will still be available for you to post in. I want you all to have the freedom and room to explore your characters as much as possible.

On a similar note, because we have the option to post between missions at the moment, I've decided to extend that availability well into September so that we can make sure all of your characters plot lines are well elaborated. I don't want you to feel you weren't given the opportunity to explore a specific facet of your characters personality, especially if we're entering a close-off point like we are now with departure. Remember also that we have some new members, so I encourage you all to take the time and contact your fellow crewmate and highly encourage you to consider a joint post - trust me, it's worth the fun, even if it's just a few paragraphs! By establishing a dialogue early on with a character, it opens up a world of opportunities later on. The choice, ultimately, is up to you.
Lastly, I wanted to give a reminder that no matter if I am busy like I am now, I am always available to talk, especially if it's something you deem very important or personal. I am not a strict Commanding Officer when it comes to the health and safety of my crew, my fellow players. We are all equals when it comes to writing this story, it just happens I'm the guy at the head of it. I don't like to dictate things unless it deals with moving on a specific part of the story. Furthermore, I greatly appreciate when a player gives ideas on how best they think we should proceed. Even if we have a roadmap on where we want to go and where we want to be, it's always considered somewhat fluid especially when new and fresh ideas are presented.
On top of that, and to elaborate, if you ever need to talk about anything non-sim related or just need a shoulder to lean on, your fellow crew in the Command Staff is here for you - I am here for you. Like I stated before, it doesn't matter if I'm busy, my priority is you. Don't ever feel afraid to talk to me. You are important to me and always will be. I'm positive my Command Staff will emphasize my point.
Let's all move forward, together! :)

Over the next four days I will be enduring a bit more work at the warehouse since inventory is approaching on the 7th. I've left the conn to my First Officer and Second Officer, Lieutenant Commander Phoebe Graydon and Lieutenant Commander Kanaka Shakura respectively. I've stated this on the discord as well in the announcements. I appreciate you bearing with me as I work through this time-consuming period and, understandably, the other command staff as well as they could easily be busy during this period. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need to, however, my door is always open and I will respond when I can.
A formal welcome to Lieutenant Jonas Pavan, played by Lt. Jonas Pavan on our discord! Jonas has a history of simming and we are greatly thankful that they have chosen our sim to provide their entertainment and comradery. Lastly, THANK YOU ALL! With a record of 86 posts for the month of August ALONE, we held 1st place in Pegasus Fleet Task Force 11's rankings, among two ships and one station. That is a FANTASTIC turnout! I do not expect that every month, but honestly guys and gals, this warms my heart. This shows me that the effort we've put in is being given back and I am extremely happy with this. If ever you need help, have a problem, or just want to joint post, never be afraid to contact your superior officers or command staff. We here at Poseidon value quality rather than quantity, but when that quality outmatches other sims, that's a fantastic thing!
As I stated before, I have an open door policy, even when I'm busy. Never be afraid to contact me about anything, I do not judge you, nor do I accuse you. I am here not only as your Game Master and Commanding Officer, but as your friend, and I greatly appreciate everyone's friendship and acquaintanceship on this sim. Remember that the command staff does too, and they are more than willing to be as open as myself. :)
